Dear Plettonians,
We would like to introduce you to the Plett Ratepayers Association, a non profit organisation which represents all Ratepayers and Residents of Bitou.
Our interest is entirely focused on the welfare and efficient management of the town, in the interest of all the citizens.
We do this by promoting good governance, actively monitoring the current activities of the municipality and promoting ordered long-term planning of the area.
In so doing, we review the financial performance of the municipality, its budgets and development plans, as well as services such as water and electricity supply, sewerage, waste disposal, roads, and numerous aspects of town planning.
We do this through regular communication with the mayor, municipal manager and directors of the various municipal departments.
We are fortunate in that we have qualified accountants, engineers, technologists, legal practitioners and other professionals, many specialists in these fields, who give of their time voluntarily.
Where our representations to the municipality are not heeded, and where appropriate, we take legal action through the courts, or seek to influence positive outcomes through the relevant political officers and regulatory institutions.
Although these roles are time-consuming and difficult to accomplish in some cases, we strive to safeguard the resident's interests, encourage good municipal management and ensure that Plett has a prosperous and safe future.
The annual subscriptions are used to pay our small administrative support staff and to have funds available to enable us to mount legal challenges, where necessary.
