We may be the new kid on the property block, but we are neither new or kids.  After many years of dealing in property for some of the biggest names in the country I am delighted to launch my own company, Helen Melon Properties (HMP).

HMP is a boutique estate agency based in Plettenberg Bay, one of South Africa’s premier holiday destinations, situated on the beautiful, world famous Garden Route. I call Plett home and it is my mission to assist buyers and sellers of exciting local property in any and every way.

We operate exclusively in this area.

While Plett is a haven to many of SA’s rich and famous - as well as international owners - it is also an amazing magic collection of many mid-range properties, offering a wide variety of houses and apartments.

Having lived and worked here for so long, I know its ins and outs, its quirks and attractions and how this little Jewel of the Garden Route operates. I also understand the property game and what makes a successful agent and agency.

Many clients have asked me – why now, why are you starting your own property company when the market is so flat? I tell them two things - the property market is not so “flat” and now is as good a time as any.

I believe knowledge, integrity, hard work and personalised service, traits that have served me so well, will again stand me in excellent stead for the launch of my own company. I have survived and thrived through past recessions and will flourish with HMP.  Many agents joining the rush to “cash in” during the boom period, saw hopes of quick money dashed; they rapidly faded away. I have been through many market highs and lows - good service and hard work leads to consistency and reward for all.

As a boutique agency we do not believe in handling each and every property coming our way, neither do we strive for mass listings, but rather stock which can be sold within an 18-week period  (17.8 weeks is the average time taken to sell a property in South Africa).

HMP is an energetic, vibrant and dynamic company, ready to go the extra kilometre for our clients; we pride ourselves on professionalism and adhere strictly to the estate agents’ code of conduct.  Our agents have undergone extensive training and receive regular ongoing briefing to ensure their knowledge of real estate market and property legislation is up-to-date.

We differ from other agencies in that we offer both buyers and sellers mandates, confident in our ability to service both.  We also allow for sellers to place HMP on terms and to terminate a mandate if unfulfilled.

Plettenberg Bay is among the world’s most beautiful locations in which to holiday or live; overseas, up-country and local investors and owners will vouch for that.

Without doubt, “Plett” is an iconic image, nominated in the 2013 World Travel Awards as a Top Africa Beach Destination. Plett offers three Blue Flag (safe & clean) Beaches, warm Indian Ocean waters, a wide range of water sports and easy access to the endless attractions – golf, lawn bowls, excellent cuisine, hiking, cycling horse riding, bird watching, angling - and many more that make the Garden Route so desirable.

What we offer sellers of mandated properties – at our cost.

  • Each property will be professionally photographed and a visual tour produced
  • A comprehensive engineer’s report on each property
  • A copy of the SG diagram of the property
  • Have an interior decorator visit each property to ‘de-clutter’ it and make it more appealing to buyers
  • Provide a comparative market report/valuation (CMR) for each property.
  • Produce a comprehensive high quality brochure for each property.
  • Provide sellers with a ‘guide to selling pack’ which includes information relating to bond cancellation; compliance certificate contractors; preparing their property for sale; letter to agents (if property has been previously marketed) to ensure they do not find themselves in a position of double commission.
  • Market properties on Property 24, Private Property and various social media channels.


What makes us different for buyers?

  • We are one of the few companies nationwide offering mandates to buyers and sellers
  • HMP can provide a CMR (valuation) service to buyers who wish to establish a fair/true market value for a particular property they have their eye on.
  • Buyers who have identified a property to purchase through an estate agency can: Mandate Helen Melon Properties to negotiate with the seller’s agent, thus ensuring (the buyer) representation in the deal, interests are protected and they are not overpaying.
