Supporting Dignity and Confidence: Helen Melon Properties Partners with Hope Rising SA

At Helen Melon Properties, we believe that a thriving community starts with looking after one another — and this Women's Month, we were proud to play a small part in a project that's making a real difference for young girls at Phakamisani Primary School.

We were approached by Hope Rising SA to help fund period panties for the girls, and we jumped at the chance. On 18 August 2026, 101 goody bags were prepared — one for every girl in attendance. But before a single bag was handed out, Hope Rising SA hosted something far more valuable: a workshop.

A Safe Space to Talk

The workshop brought female teachers to the front of the room, not as instructors reading from a textbook, but as women sharing their own stories. They spoke openly about hygiene, about the body's changes, about exercise and self-respect — creating a safe space for conversations that so many girls never get to have out loud.

The message was clear: your body is yours, and you should be proud of it. Girls were reminded that their teachers are there for their questions, that their friends are there to support them, and that this next step towards womanhood isn't something to face in silence or shame. Be open. Support one another. Ask questions. It was a morning built on honesty, and the energy in the room reflected it — positive, proactive, and full of the kind of encouragement every young girl deserves to hear.

Why It Matters

Hope Rising SA's work extends beyond this one school. Across the schools they visit, the goal remains the same: to make sure that something as simple — and as fixable — as access to sanitary products never becomes the reason a girl misses school, falls behind, or drops out altogether. Every girl deserves the chance to stay in the classroom, reach her full potential, and grow into a successful, contributing woman in her community.
